A new analysis carried out by published by Copenhagen Capacity on the basis of Ernst & Young’s “European Investment Monitor” database show that the Øresund Region has become the most important investment region in Scandinavia. The number of international investment projects in the region is higher than ever, and the region has increased its share of inward investment projects in Scandinavia.
Last year, the Øresund Region attracted 76 inward investment projects. This corresponds to a Scandinavian market share of 38%, and positions the region as the third biggest receiver of investment projects in Europe - only superseded by London and Paris.
One main driver behind this development is that companies see an advantage in accessing a substantial local market while also gaining access to a broader Scandinavian market. Moreover, from within the region, it is possible to draw upon a large catchment area of skilled labour. In this respect, the region’s profile is particularly strong within the fields of IT, telecom and electronics, business services and life sciences. In fact, no less than 70% of all investments in the region last year fell within one of these sectors.
Indications are also that Skåne has managed to increase its share of foreign investment projects in Sweden. Last year Skåne, for instance, attracted no fewer than 18 projects, a marked increase on previous years. The increase in investment projects in Skåne and Skåne’s continually rising share of inward investment projects in Sweden, can, in part, be ascribed to the ongoing integration of the Øresund Region and Greater Copenhagen’s strong position in the European market.
The European regions receiving the most investment projects are: London (153), Paris (136), The Øresund Region (76), Grenoble (62), Copenhagen (58), Moscow (53), Barcelona (50), Stockholm (47), Budapest (38), Estonia (36), Nord-Pas-de-Calais (33), Madrid (32), Toulouse (32), Dublin (32), Alsace (30), Bordeaux (30).
