The business community in
the Øresund Region

The Øresund Region – which comprises eastern Denmark, including the capital Copenhagen, and southern Sweden – is one of the few truly integrated border Regions in Europe. The various sections of the Region are linked via the 16-km-long Øresund Bridge between Malmö and Copenhagen, and by a “floating” bridge that links Helsingborg and Elsinore in the north. The cross-border aspect is one of the dimensions that you as a business owner get as part of the deal when you choose to locate your business in the Øresund Region. However, there are plenty of other good reasons to make the move.

The Øresund Region is in the heart of Northern Europe, with a finely developed infrastructure and a central location in Scandinavia and the Nordic Region. In addition, it enjoys close proximity to the Baltic States and the markets of North Germany and Poland. Copenhagen Airport, the largest international airport in Northern Europe makes the Region a truly international hub, providing 125 direct connections to destinations all over the world. In brief, the Øresund Region enjoys a strategic location with proximity to a whole range of markets. It is also home to an attractive market itself, as it has a consumer base with plenty of purchasing power, made up of two of the strongest consumer nations in Europe.

Large recruitment base
The Region is highly populous. In all, 3.6 million people live here in an area half the size of Switzerland (20,859 km2). The Øresund Region is home to a highly educated workforce of 1.8 million people and thus constitutes the very largest recruitment base in Scandinavia. If you locate in the Region, you will instantly have access to a workforce with two Scandinavian languages and a high level of skills in other languages – English in particular. International studies have recently revealed that the distinctive features of the workforce in the Øresund Region are motivation, independence and skill in tackling change.
