Clean environment – high priority
The environmental sector employs approximately 23,300 people, 880 of whom are researchers. It has an annual turnover of DKK 23 billion. The areas in which the Øresund Region excels are waste management, water and the marine environment, energy and policy planning. One of the Øresund Region’s strengths is advice on environmental issues.
Sweden and Denmark, strong environmental profiles
The companies involved in this sector in the region include Sydkraft, Rockwool, Rambøll Group and ABB. A clean environment is a top priority in Denmark and Sweden alike, and both countries are known around the world for their strong environmental stand. This means it is no coincidence that Copenhagen was chosen as the location of the European Environment Agency in 1994.
